Larger than life Hollywood hunk, Brady Devens, has won the hearts of millions of adoring fans. But, the only heart he wants to win is that of his mate, Madelyn. She hasn't shown an interest in him as anything more than a friend, and he’s beginning to think the Powers That Be goofed.

In this world of magik, mishap, demons, gods, and pleasure nymphs, anything is possible. Can they find a love that transcends time and space or will the Powers That Be decide maybe they weren’t destined for one another after all?

I found this book out of pure luck because I was trying to find an audio book to listen to while I’m at work, and thank goodness I did. The Guardians book was an enjoyable book with a kiss azz heroine. I enjoyed the storyline and the concept to the series although there was some aspects of the book that I found confusing which is why I’m giving it 4 stars. This is the first time I’ve read from this author and it wasn’t too shabby.

The book revolves around the only female Guardian named Maddy who is a college student by day (although we never saw any of that in the book) and a kick butt female by night that saves innocents from the evil that haunts them.

I did enjoy Maddy’s character most of the time when she wasn’t acting like a horny teenager. I love that she is a sassy, confident, humorous, and a pretty tough character and enjoyed the creativity of the action sequences. What I don’t like is how argumentative she can get at times and doesn’t follow orders even when she knows she’s wrong other than that I enjoyed her more than the male lead who I felt wasn’t a 100% well fit for her.

Brady was just ok for me, nothing too extraordinary about him. This character is supposed to be the Alpha male of the Lycans but I felt he wasn’t Alpha enough for Maddy. He acted like a flirty friend most of the book and the second another male that is worth catching her eye comes into the picture he acts like a jealous boyfriend with no backbone. I’ve read books where the male character has spent his entire life loving and looking after a girl and is waiting till she grows both in age, physically and mentally to put a move on her and that’s ok with me. What I didn’t like is how easily he pawns her out to another male in his pack when her body is so called “transitioning” and she goes though some sex craze when her body matures. If I knew that was my mate was transitioning I wouldn’t let anyone touch her and help her go through that transition myself. The male lead was just disappointing to me, sorry but it’s true.

Another thing I found odd in the story was, what was the point of the sex nymphs? They just made no sense to me and they were more like page fillers than anything else. I didn’t like how she introduces characters and then they disappear shortly after and some of the scenes where real jumpy it was hard to keep a times. I did enjoy her writing style though, I’m not some grammar or english Nazi so that doesn’t bother me but I like when an author doesn’t spend 20 pages to describe a small piece of a scene and goes strait to the point on what going on at that current time. All in all it was still an enjoyable book even though there was a couple things that needed tweaking it was still good.

The Guardians edition by Mandy M Roth Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews

The book was good but unlike her other books that I'm really crazy about this one has too much backstory and it just like another one I just read of hers. I enjoyed the book I'm glad to know that Brady wasn't just a plain human it took a while to figure it out and you can get a little bit confused when you figure out what is going on. And her she's a rough and tough All that kind of stuff but I'm still I'm just kind of not sure about this book I guess is what I'm saying. I am going to read the second one and see if it's any less confusing and parts. I mean the book is good don't get me wrong I enjoyed it.
Protecting the world from super natural evil is not a job for the weak, just ask Madelyn Mason. Madelyn spends her nights kicking the butts of the things nightmares are made of making sure no human ever knows about it. She is sassy, tough, and takes no crap from anyone, including her sexy best friend Brady. Believing Brady is human she tries to keep him protected and oblivious to the things that terrorize the dark.
Sexy, Alpha King of the Lycans, Brady Devens has watched over Madeyln for years waiting and protecting her. Now he’s ready to make his move and claim her as his mate. All he has to do is let Madelyn know how much he really loves and let her in on his secret of who he really is, if it could only be that simple. When a man from Madelyn’s past comes back, secrets of the past collide with present dangers will they be able to face them united or will Brady’s jealousy drive a wedge between them?
This is a fast paced story with snarky humor, kick-ass super naturals, Alpha males, steamy bedroom scenes you will lose yourself in. Anxiously awaiting the next book in this series, can’t wait to see what Mandy has in store for some of our favorite supporting characters in the next book!
The story starts out with our feisty, often sassy heroine, Madelyn Mia Mason watching her secret love and roommate Brady on the film set. By day she is a student, but afterwards she camps out on the film set to watch and issue well-placed barbs about his leading ladies to Brady Devens. He's a golden haired well-muscled, tall, heartthrob. Maddy's father is the producer of his films and this gives her the access she needs to watch him act and on occasion zap his leading lady. That she has this secret ability is one that they share between the two of them. No one else on the production set is aware of her unusual abilities. Yes, the use of plural was not a mistake.

At night, Maddy uses her talents to make it appear that she is asleep in bed, when she is out with her fellow Guardians on patrol. She is most unusual, being the only female Guardian EVER. The guys all accept her, because she has some outstanding magical abilities, and she has them wrapped firmly around her pinky finger! She often sits outside Brady's door just to be sure the evil paranormals do not get to him.

Brady, on the other hand, has loved Maddy her whole life. He saved her when she was five from drowning, and because he saved her as a golden haired lycan, she named him Honey. Brady is not too thrilled with the nickname, but thinks she has forgotten it. He also knows that his saving her that day was no accident, but a meeting meant to happen. From that day, he has remained true to her, his life mate. She has lived in his home, in a platonic relationship for two years. He is trying to get her to know him as a man, not a screen idol, and certainly not as the king of the lycans, before he reveals himself. It is getting more difficult daily not to make her his own.

On this day at the opening of our story, Brady is paired with a truly awful heroine. They have NO chemistry and it shows. She is eventually replaced with Maddy. Their parts call for some rather erotic and sexy scenes. By this time she has given him a quick kiss and he returned it with one to curl her toes and make her need to change her panties. Maddy still thinks he is human as she cannot sense lycans.

This was the intro, getting your feel for the hero and heroine part of the story. NOW... things start to move at a much faster pace.

You quickly learn the name of several other members of the Guardians Franco their leader and who watches out for Maddy she teases him by calling him Frankie, Vance and Hudson. Hudson we learn was a former lover of Maddy's (much to the distress of Brady). She broke up with Vance earlier because he cheated on her with two women at the same time! They go out on patrol each evening, looking for paranormals intent on harming humans or other peaceful paranormals. Their job is to kill them, not an
easy task, but one at which Maddy excels.

They get into some bad fights where they are badly outnumbered and Maddy is injured. Hudson recognizes that Maddy is running on empty, like she has before, and this time it is bad. There's a bit of humour when asked when she last got a good nights sleep. I could easily visualize everyone's reaction. Another encounter, this one where they are greatly outnumbered.
The lycan Guardians have been told that their King is coming. Maddy watches as Brady approaches during the middle of this battle. It is here he reveals himself to be not just a lycan but the KING of all the lycans. He takes out the enemy with the power he can so easily draw upon.

This is just one of the many surprising revelations that keep coming at the reader, faster and faster... until the end.
BUT... the real war is just about to begin. HURRY BOOK 2!!!!
In the meantime you will be kept busy filling in the blanks that you never knew were missing, but just leave you with the need to know more.

I think one more book won't do it, I NEED AN ENTIRE SERIES. I spent an hour after finishing this first book looking for book 2. I stayed up WAY TOO LATE finishing this book (not so early in the morning). Hubby kissed me good morning as he got out of bed to start his day.
